The business robbery occurred on 2009-05-27 at 03:30 at Waterkloof Corner in Main/Crown Street.  The alarm was activated three times during the night.  Every time ADT arrived on the scene they could not find anything wrong on the premises.  At 03:30 three armed men gun pointed the security guard of the premises.  They handcuffed him with his own handcuffs and force him to give out the security code.  At about 05:30 the next security guard arrived at the premises.  On investigation they found that there was broken into one of the shops and computer equipment was stolen.

The house robbery occurred on 2009-05-21 at 00:05 in Brooklyn Road.  5 Occupants were sitting outside when 3 unknown men got entry to the premises over the back wall.  They were all armed and pointed the occupants.  They took cell phones and a writs watch.  They took one of the occupants inside the house and took 2 laptops from the house.  They fled the scene, with no shots fired and no one injured.

The house robbery occurred on 2009-05-20 at 03:00 in Clark Street, Waterkloof.  Two unknown men armed with a firearm gained entry to the house by forcing open the kitchen window.  They went to the down stairs bedroom and demanded money.  They also took cell phones and jewellery.  They tried to tie the complainant.  He struggled with the suspects and they hit him over the head with a blunt object.  The complainant then called his son who was sleeping upstairs for help.  The suspects then fled.

Hoax e-mail:  “Woman arrest law”

Hoax e-mails are being circulated in South Africa with ever-increasing frequency, disseminating incorrect information and causing confusion which could have far-reaching effects if not disputed.

Such an e-mail, with the heading “Woman Arrest Law”, claims that between 6 pm and 6 am, a woman under arrest has the right to refuse to go to a police station with a police official, even if an arrest warrant has been issued against her.

It then states that a woman can be arrested between 6 pm and 6 am, but only if she is arrested by a woman officer and is taken to an all woman police station.

The information contained in this e-mail is completely incorrect under South African law and is not applicable in this country.

A woman can be arrested at any time of day or night by both male and female police officials, with or without an arrest warrant depending on the circumstances.  A person may be arrested without a warrant, for example, if a serious offence has been committed in the presence of a police official, if a police official reasonably suspect that person has committed a serious offence or if a suspect has escaped or attempted to escape from lawful custody.

A woman who has been arrested may not refuse to accompany a police official of either gender to a police station and can be charged with resisting arrest should she attempt to do so.

There is no provision in an arrest warrant which stipulates that the arrest must be executed during daylight hours.  Sometimes it is impractical or impossible to arrest a wanted person during working hours and it stands to reason that the arrest must be effected between 6 pm and 6 am.

The concept of “all women” police stations is not practised in South Africa.

It can be mentioned that a woman can only be searched by a female police official in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act and that, in terms of the same Act; a search warrant should be executed by day, unless the person issuing the warrant in writing authorizes the execution thereof by night.  These provisions do not apply to arrest warrants.  There are also circumstances under which a search can be conducted without a warrant and there is no limit to the time of day or night when this can take place.

Members of the community are urged to ignore this e-mail and to refrain from disseminating it as responding to enquiries from its circulation is causing a waste of the police’s time.

The complainant was asleep on the couch in the TV room at the commune where he is a resident.  He woke up of a hard blow on his head.  Three unknown, armed men were in the room.  They ransacked the house and took six cell phones and clothes.

The armed robbery other weapon occurred on 2009-05-14 at 11:45 at Clearwater Road, Lynnwood Glen.  A lookout was given for a black Volkswagen Golf with no registration number.

Restructuring at Brooklyn police station

During the restructuring process a decision was made by the Provincial office to recognise the brilliant skills and leadership of Director Frank Mthombheni by reassigning him to Pretoria Central police station.

On behalf of the Brooklyn Community Police Forum we acknowledge his devotion to the station and the community.  The strength attained by the station and the Community Police Forum are a silent tribute to his able efforts.

Number Plate Hijacking

There is a new number plate hijacking trend brewing around. These hijackers will stalk you to a parking lot or mall, after parking your vehicle; they remove your number plate and wait for you to drive off. They then follow you and overtake you displaying your number plate at their window as if you had lost it and want to give it back to you.  Shocked that your number plate has fallen off your car, you bring your vehicle to a halt to get it from them. This is all they want you to do and by the time you realized what happened it is too late, your car was hijacked. Please do not stop for any thing; a number plate is valueless compared to your live.

No one was injured.

The armed robbery took place on Wednesday 2009-05-06 at 13:30 at Farmers Folley Street.  The complainant was from the Standard bank of Lynnwood Ridge Mall.  One armed unknown man approached her and ordered her to hand over the money.  At that moment her friend also stopped at the address.  Another two armed unknown men then approached them.  They robbed the money and fled in a blue c-class Mercedes Benz with no registration number.

The armed robbery occurred on Wednesday 2009-05-06 at 13:30 at the c/o Main and Sidney Street at the Pretoria Country Club.  The complainant was also from Lynnwood Ridge Mall where he with drawn money from the ABSA bank.  When he left the club an armed unknown man pointed him with a firearm and ordered him to hand over the money.  A silver Mazda 6 was seen fleeing from the scene.

The house robbery occurred on Wednesday 2009-05-06 at 18:30 at Njala Street, Monument Park.  The complainant is a 74 year old female who lives alone.  She did not close the motor gate or the front door.  Later she saw items inside the house that were out of place.  She went to another room and found one armed unknown man inside the room.  He told her that he was hungry.  He took her to the kitchen where she heated food for him from the fridge.  He then tied her and ransacked the house.  He took some jewellery, copper items and clothes.  He asked her for her car key and told her that he is in a hurry because he must still go to Johannesburg.  He then fled in her vehicle.
