Brooklyn News 24-27   October Sector 1 - 4

Sector 1

Burglaries at residences were reported in Lynnwood and Hatfield.
Vehicle related crimes were reported at Hillcrest Boulevard, Hatfield, Lynnwood and Brooklyn.
A handbag was stolen at the Springbok bar while the complainant and a friend were sitting in the bar. A coloured male and a coloured lady bumped the people’s chairs and then grabbed the complainants hand bag that was hanging from the chair. They then fled.
An armed robbery was reported at c/o Duncan & Lynnwood at about 03:30 on Friday 03:30. The complainant stopped at the robot and one armed unknown male approached him. The suspect demanded car keys, cell phone and a wallet. The complainant handed over some items and then drove of.
An armed robbery was reported on Saturday 2008-10-25 at c/o Brooklyn and Charles at 00:15. An unknown man knocked on the window and indicated that the vehicle had a flat tyre. When the complainant climbed out of the vehicle he was pointed by a firearm and forced back into the vehicle. They drove to Sunnyside where the suspect met another four unknown men. They took the complainant’s watch, wallet and bank cards. The complainant succeeded in fleeing.

Sector 2

Most of the crimes were reported during the day.
A burglary was reported at residence at Ashlea Gardens and at business at c/o Crown and Main.
Vehicle related crimes were reported at Waterkloof, Menlo Park, new Muckleneuk and Maroelana.
A house robbery and was reported on Sunday 08:45 at 21st Avenue in Menlo Park. The domestic worker was outside when two unknown men armed with a knife approached her. They forced her to open the kitchen door for them. They tied the domestic worker and the complainant with rope.They took electrical music appliances. They fled in the complainant’s green Honda Ballade.

Sector 3

Burglaries at residences in this sector are high. Most of the total crimes in this sector were committed during the night.
Burglaries at residences were reported in Newlands (hotspot = Caraway Avenue), Constantia Park, Erasmuskloof (hotspot = Gariep) and Lynnwood Glen.
Vehicle related crimes were reported in Erasmuskloof (hotspot = Castle Walk Shopping Centre) and Newlands.
A business robbery was reported on Saturday 2008-10-25 at 20:12 at Menlyn at the Barmazel International Podium. Five unknown men climbed over the fence. They broke in and took a laptop and computer equipment. They fetched the security guards from the main gate and made them lie down. They fled in a silver Toyota Corolla.

Sector 4

Most of the crimes that were reported were committed during the night.
Burglaries at residences were reported in Monument Park, Waterkloof Ridge and Waterkloof Heights.
Burglaries at businesses were reported at Monument Park Shopping Centre (details were given on the previous report) and at the Pick and Pay in Erasmusrand on Saturday 2008-10-25 between 04:44 and 04:51. In both incidents a large amount of cigarettes were stolen. Vehicle related crimes were reported in Waterkloof heights and Waterkloof Ridge.

Brooklyn News 23-24   October Sector 1 - 4

Sector 1

Vehicle related crimes were reported between 17:00 and 23:00 at Hatfield (Prospect and Burnett), Lynnwood North and Brooklyn.

Sector 2

Vehicle related crimes were reported in Hazelwood and Menlo Park.

Sector 3

A burglary at residence was reported in Lynnwood Glen (Maldon Street).

Sector 4

A business burglary occurred once again this morning at 04:40 at Monument Park Shopping centre at the WP Kelders liquor store. Four suspects with balaclavas broke into the shop and stole expensive liquor and cigarettes. A Coin security vehicle arrived when the suspects wanted to fled in their white 1 series BMW. The suspects shot five shots in their direction. Two shots hit the Coin vehicle. Nobody was injured and the suspects are still at large.

Success

14 suspects were profiled. One suspect who was arrested for a burglary had a previous house breaking case withdrawn.
One suspect who was arrested for pointing of a firearm had a previous Brooklyn case of possession of dagga and two outstanding PTA Central cases of theft.

Brooklyn News 22-23   October Sector 1 - 4

Sector 1

Burglary at residence was reported in Prospect Street, Hatfield.
Vehicle related crimes were reported at Brooklyn, Pienaar Street and Richard Street in Hatfield.

Sector 2

Vehicle related crimes were reported in Waterkloof and Menlo Park.
A red light robbery was reported at Charles/University at 19:30.
A common robbery was reported at 08:20 at Dey / Bronkhorst in New Muckleneuk.

Sector 3

Sector 4

Burglaries at residences were reported in Erasmusrand and Waterkloof Ridge during the early mornings (06:45 and 08:00).

Brooklyn News 21-22   October Sector 1 - 4

Sector 1

Burglaries at residences were reported in Lynnwood (Sappers Contour), Brooklyn (Murray Street) and Hatfield at a flat in Burnett Street. Vehicle related crime in Burnett Street was reported late for over the weekend.
A late armed robbery was reported on 2008-10-15 at 23:00 at Hatfield Square. The complainant was coming from a night club. Three Indian men got with him into his vehicle and drove around with him. They left him at an unknown area and fled with the car keys, cell phone and cash. The complainant was under the influence of liquor and cannot remember much of the incident.

Sector 2

Vehicle related crimes were reported at Brooklyn mall parking area, SARS and in Bronkhorst Street.

Sector 3

Burglaries at residences were reported at Lynnwood Glen, Constantia Park and Erasmuskloof. All of the reported cases are late reports. Vehicle related crimes were reported at Menlyn Retail Park, Waterkloof Glen, and Lynnwood Glen.
An armed robbery was reported on 2008-10-21 at 07:00 at Koichab Street, Erasmuskloof. The complainant was pulling his vehicle out of the garage when two unknown men robbed him from his briefcase and cell phone. They fled on foot.

Sector 4

An attempted armed robbery was reported on 2008-10-21 at 11:45 at Tegan Street at a security complex in Waterkloof Ridge. The complainant arrived back from the bank after withdrawing a large amount of money. A white BMW 3-series with three unknown men followed her. They climbed over the wall and demanded money and jewellery by gunpoint. The complainant threw a necklace to them. They picked it up and threw it down again. The complainant screamed and informed them that there is security on the premises. She shouted to someone to push the panic button. The suspects started to panicked and fled over the wall without taking anything.

Good work:
The investigating officers assisted a lady who is staying in Lynnwood yesterday. He husband left for Four Ways. Later the morning she received sms’s that money was withdrawn in Diepsloot and later somewhere in JHB. They liaised with investigators that side and four suspects were arrested. The vehicle was hi-jacked.

Brooklyn News 20 - 21 October Sector 1 - 4

Sector 1

Vehicle related crimes were reported on 2008-10-18 in Duncan Street and Hatfield Square. On 2008-10-20 there were reports at the University and Brooklyn. A burglary residence was reported at Mopanie House, Lunnon Street.

Sector 2

Vehicle related crimes were reported on 2008-10-19 in Umgazi Street, Menlo Park.
A burglary residence was reported over the weekend in Roeline Park, Alphen Park.

Sector 3

Vehicle related crimes were reported (all late reports) in Lynnwood Glen, Waterkloof Glen and Menlyn Centre.
Burglaries at residence were reported in Lynnwood Glen, Waterkloof Glen and Erasmuskloof.

Brooklyn News 17 - 20 October Sector 1 - 4

Sector 1

Burglaries were reported at Akademia and Grosvenor fountains (Hatfield) and Makenzi Street (Brooklyn).
Vehicle related crimes were reported in Charles Street, Roper, Prospect, Hilda, Kings Highway (Bowling club), Burnett, Grosvenor, Rosemary.
An armed robbery was reported in Brooks Street at the Vietnam Embassy. The complainant came back from the bank after withdrawing a large amount of cash. A white Tazz with 3 unknown men with a hand gun stopped behind his vehicle in the driveway. They robbed the cash and fled.

Sector 2

Burglaries at businesses were reported in Pinaster (Hazelwood), Crown (Waterkloof) and Roeline Street (Alphen Park).
Vehicle related crimes were reported in Garsfontein Road, Middel Street, Bariton Street, Boshoff Street and Oaktree Avenue.
A house robbery was reported on Friday 2008-10-17 at 22:00 in Newlands, Wild Avenue. The complainant was working on his computer when two unknown males, both armed entered through the open kitchen door. The outside gate was lift from the rail. They tied him up and tied the lady in the bedroom. They took a large amount of cash, cell phones, credit cards and the car keys. They fled in a white Toyota Corolla.

Burglaries at residences were reported in Waterkloof Glen, Newlands and Erasmuskloof.
Vehicle related crimes were reported in Menlyn, Waterkloof Glen, Lynnwood Glen, Erasmuskloof, Newlands and Constantia Park.
A business robbery was reported at Imali Express in Menlyn on Sunday 2008-10-19 at 16:10. The man came in to exchange dollars. He and the complainant had a dispute with regards to the rates. He decided to leave. When the complainant opened the door for him he took out a fire arm and robbed her of a large amount of money. There were no cameras and no extra security in place.

Vehicle related crimes were reported in Waterkloof Ridge and Waterkloof Heights.

Brooklyn news 10 - 13 Oct 2008, sector 1 - 4

Sector 1

Burglaries at residences were reported in Brooklyn (Murray Street), Hatfield (South Street at a complex and Burnette Street).
Thefts of m/v were reported all on Saturday in Brooklyn (Roper), Hatfield (Grosvenor) and Lynnwood (Eastfort Park).
Thefts out of m/v were reported mostly on Saturday in Brooklyn (Lange and Roper) and Hatfield (South).
A red light robbery was reported on Saturday at about 20:45 in Lynnwood at c/c Lynnwood and Meiring Naude.
A business robbery was reported on Friday 10:30 in Brooklyn, Charles Street. The remote control gate was opened for visitors when two unknown men entered with the visitor. The two suspects went to the reception room and asked for water. They were given water in the lounge. After drinking their water they went back to the reception room and demanded money and jewellery. They fled the scene with cell phones, jewellery and cash.
A car jacking was reported on Friday at 14:30 in Duncan Street, Brooklyn. The complainant stopped at the red light, when the suspect got into the vehicle from the passenger’s side. He ordered the complainant to drive. The complainant was able to stop the vehicle and to get out. While running away she was screaming for help. The suspect also got out of the vehicle and ran. Bystanders assisted to arrest the suspect. He was not armed.

Sector 2

Burglaries at residence were reported in Hazelwood (dely) and Menlo Park (14th).
Thefts of m/v were reported during day times in Waterkloof (Long), Maroelana (Van Staden) and at SARS in Ashlea Gardens. (Every week a vehicle gets stolen at SARS).
Burglary at business was reported at Silver oak inter school was reported in Hazelwood.

Sector 3

Burglaries at residences were reported at Waterkloof Glen (Roslyn), Erasmuskloof (Goenap, Eiseb, Sansita and Bietou).
Theft out of vehicle was reported at Glenwood Road, Lynnwood Glen.
A red light robbery was reported on Friday at 20:20 at N1/Atterbury.
A house robbery occurred on Friday at 18:30-19:50 at Gina Avenue, Waterkloof Glen. The complainant arrived at home from JHB. He hooted for the gardener to open the gate. When he did not receive any response, he phoned his gardener. The gardener said he is on his way from a friend. The complainant decided to open the gate himself. Inside his premises he was approached by 5 unknown men. One had a shot gun and the other a hand gun. They demanded the complainant to show him them the safe. They also asked whether there are any cameras or panic buttons in the house. They tied him up and took firearms from the safe, cell phones and other items. The whole house was ransacked. The complainant still tied up only received help the next morning from the neighbours. The gardener never pitched up. It is investigated whether he is involved with this incident.
A business burglary was reported at the Dros in Atterbury Road.

Sector 4

Burglaries at residences were reported in Monument Park (Okape), Sterrewag (Jack Bennet, Knox Shaw), Waterkloof Ridge (Ridgeview, Muskejaat) and Waterkloof Heights (Piggs Peak) mostly during the day (Fri and Sat) and early evenings.
A vehicle was stolen in Nondela Street in Waterkloof Heights.
 

Arrests

27 suspects were arrested and two of them were wanted on other cases in PTA North and Garsfontein.

Brooklyn news , YOUTH DESK MEMBERS WILL HAND OUT “VACCINE AGAINST CRIME” IN SECTOR 3
A significant number of community members are still unaware of community policing as a concept, and are therefore unaware of consultative Sector Crime Forum meetings with the Police. The Brooklyn Youth Desk will embark on different marketing projects to make community members more aware of these meetings. It is believe that more community involvement will bring about effective change, contributing to a safer environment for all.
On Saturday 18 October 2008 from 13:00 till 17:00 the Pretoria’s Purple Bus (Provided by Ulusses Tours & Safaris cc) will be escorted by SAPS and Metro Police vehicles driving through Brooklyn SAPS Sector 3 which comprises of the following areas:
 Erasmuskloof
 Constantia Park
 Kasteelpark
 Waterkloof Glen
 Newlands
 Menlyn/De Beers
 Lynnwood Glen
“Vaccines Against Crime” with flyers will be distributed as the road show progress along the route. The flyers will include information on the next Sector Crime Forum meeting for Sector 3 (Thursday 13 November 2008 at the Kings Wood Village on the corner of Gay and Rosslyn Street, Waterkloof Glen at 19:00).
The core goal of the Sector Crime Forum (SPF) meeting will be to:
1. Establish a proper structure for the SPF in Sector 3, where community participation is still very poor;
2. Identify street representatives (who would serve as a link to other community members of the same street in terms of communication);
3. Assess the community’s needs;
4. Discuss identified strategies; and
5. Identify an immediate plan of action.

Brooklyn news 08 - 09 Oct 2008, sector 1 - 4

Sector 1 = up
Burglaries as residences were reported in Hatfield, Lynnwood and Brooklyn. Most of the burglaries that were reported during the week in Hatfield took place at complexes.
Thefts out of m/v were reported in Glynn, UP and Hatfield Plaza.
A car jacking was reported on 2008-10-09 in Alexander Road, Brooklyn at about 19:10. The complainant arrived home and parked the vehicle in the garage. Two unknown men armed with 9mm approached him when he got out of his vehicle. The suspects demanded his vehicle at gun point. They struggled to start the BMW and the complainant had to show them how to start the vehicle. They took a golden writs watch, a wedding ring, cash, cell phone, house keys and a bottle of whiskey before they fled off in the complainant’s BMW. The BMW was later recovered in Mamelodi.
A robbery with a knife was reported on 2008-10-09 at 12:30 at Festival/Burnett. The complainant was walking on the pavement, while talking on the cell phone. Two unknown men bumped hard into the complainant. The cell phone dropped to the ground. When the complainant wanted to pick up the cell phone, the suspects threatened the complainant with a knife. They fled with the cell phone.
Safety hint: Always be aware of your surroundings especially if you talk on your cell phone in the public.

Thefts out of m/v were reported at Brooklyn Mall and Dey/Giovanetti.
Sector 3 = down
Thefts out of m/v were reported in Caraway and Douglas Scholtz/General Louis Botha.
A red light robbery was reported on 2008-10-08 at 15:45 at N1/Atterbury.
A rape was reported on 2008-10-09 at 19:20 at Dely/N1, Newlands. The 21 year old victim was walking along the street when she was approached by an unknown male. He was wearing a black cap, black jeans and a SPAR jersey. He ordered her to hand over her cell phone and cash. When she tried to take it out of a book bag, he took the bag from her. He went to hide the bag and found only R60.00 in her wallet. That made him loose his temper and he came back and started to threaten her with a knife. He undressed her and raped her.

A burglary residence was reported in Bauhinia road, Waterkloof Heights.
A theft out of m/v was reported in Ridgeview, Waterkloof Ridge.
Arrests:
3 for shop lifting (one suspect was previously found guilty for theft on a Kempton Park case and another suspect was previously found guilty on theft cases in Hillbrow, PTA Central, Mondeor and an assault case in Hillbrow.)
2 for Housebreaking in Garsfontein Area by Brooklyn SAPS.
3 for possession of drugs.

Red light robbery was reported on 2008-10-07 at 19:15 at Koningin Welhelmina/Charles Street, Brooklyn.
Burglaries at residences were reported in Brooklyn and Hatfield.
Theft of m/v was reported at UP on 2008-10-08 between 08:00 and 19:00.

A house robbery was reported on 2008-10-08 at 14:30 at 21th Street, Menlo Park. A slender build unknown male who was unarmed entered the house. The complainant was in the main bedroom. The suspect ordered her to lie down on the ground. He went to the kitchen and took a knife and threatened her not to try anything. The suspect fled with a cell phone and cash.
Burglaries at residences were reported in Lynnwood and Baileys Muckleneuk.

Theft out of m/v were reported in Erasmuskloof (Sita and Castle Walk), Menlyn shopping centre and in Newlands.
A red light robbery was reported on 2008-10-05 between 19:30 and 19:50 at Lynnwood/Meiring Naude, Lynnwood Glen.
A house robbery was reported on 2008-10-08 at 08:00 at Indaba Street, Lynnwood Glen. The complainant heard the gate open and a slender build unknown male entered through the kitchen door. The suspect dragged the complainant to one of the bedrooms and locked him in by locking the security gate in the passage. A plasma TV and camera were stolen. It is suspected that the suspect can be the same one who committed the robbery later the same day in Menlo Park.
Burglaries at residences were reported in Constantia Park, Newlands and Lynnwood Glen.

An attempted theft of m/v was reported in Waterkloof Heights and a burglary at residence was reported in Waterkloof Ridge.
Arrests
3 suspects were arrested in Garsfontein on 2008-10-08 driving a black BMW that is believed to be the same suspects that were involved with the business break-in in Monument Park at the liquor store and the jewellery shop.

A vehicle was stolen in Lunnon Street, Hillcrest between 13:00-14:30.
Thefts out of m/v were reported in Hatfield and Brooklyn. (One arrest was made in Hatfield).
Sector 2 = Down
A vehicle was stolen in Spiral Street, Menlo Park that was parked inside the yard.
Theft out of m/v was reported in New Muckleneuk.
Sector 3 = same
Burglary at residence was reported in Constantia Park.
Theft out of m/v were reported in Lynnwood Glen and Menlyn (Laptop was stolen from seat out of vehicle that was parked at the Dros).

The two business burglaries that were mentioned yesterday is on today’s stats. Out of the investigation so far it was mentioned that about 8 suspects were involved. A BMW (unknown colour and unknown registration number) with a dent on the left bumper and VW Golf were also involved with these incidents.
A theft out of m/v was reported in Waterkloof Heights, Driekoppen Road. The vehicle was also parked inside the yard.

Late reports were made for crimes that were committed over the weekend in Hillcrest and Brooklyn.
Sector 2 = down
An armed robbery was reported on Friday 3 October 2008 in Atterbury/Rosemary, Menlo Park at about 17:45. The complainant was driving his bicycle when he was approached by four unknown men in a white Nissan bakkie. The men took his wallet and personal belongings as well as the bicycle. (If you can remember a similar case was reported last month in Lynnwood Road)

A burglary as residence was reported in Erasmuskloof in Gariep Street at 10:00.
Vehicle related crimes were reported in Lynnwood Glen, Waterkloof Heights and Menlyn. (All late reports)
Sector 4 = up
Two business breakings were reported at the Monument Park Shopping centre at the liquor store and jewellery shop early this morning. The crimes were committed at about 03:30 and were completed within a few minutes. Very expensive jewellery and liquor were taken. A silver Nirvana was seen. In the past a silver Nirvana was also involve with another incident at a liquor store. A black Polo and a black Isuzu bakkie were also spotted with the silver Nirvana at that incident.

An armed robbery was reported on Friday at 13:10 in Hatfield where a lady was forced at gun point by four unknown men to withdraw cash from Standard bank. She was taken with them in a blue Toyota Corolla and jumped out of the moving vehicle in Soutpansbergweg.

Vehicle related crimes were reported in Menlyn.
Red light robberies were reported on Friday 2008-10-03 at 18:30/19:45 at Rigel/N1 and Delmas/N1. An arrest was made.

Burglaries at residence were reported mostly in Waterkloof Ridge (Genl Erasmus, Rooiribbok, Aquila, Derrick, Carina, Lyra, Polaris and Johan Rissik)
Thefts of vehicles were reported in Waterkloof Ridge and Monument Park (both at businesses).
62 arrests were made over the weekend. One suspect who was arrested for obstruction of traffic is wanted for attempted murder and robbery in Silverton. A suspect was arrested for possession of drugs and is wanted for reckless and negligent driving in Sunnyside.
A few cases were reported in Atterbury and Lynnwood Road over the weekend where the water meters were stolen.

Brooklyn news 02 -03 Oct 2008, sector 1 - 4

A house robbery was reported at 9th street, Menlo Park at 11:00-12:00 on 2008-10-02. The gardener was busy working in the garden when one unknown male and three unknown females approach him, pointed him with a firearm and took him to the front door. One of the ladies pointed the domestic worker with a firearm and two other ladies went inside the house. After a few minutes the ladies got out of the house carrying three handbags with items. The suspects drove away with a red Toyota Conquest/Tazz with unknown registration number.
